In the northeast this is the time of year to get the best apples as they’re picked fresh from the tree. There are so many uses for these wonderful apples – pies, cakes, apple sauce or cider.
At a recent Gourmet Dinner Club (GDC) dinner celebrating autumn’s bounty, Jack R (husband to Bryn S) was kind enough to prepare this fall-themed drink for us. Start with the best fresh apple cider you can find, add some amber/gold rum (such as Mount Gay) and a bit of pure maple syrup. Stir it up. Serve it in a cinnamon-sugar rimmed martini glass topped with an apple slice. The little bit of cinnamon-sugar that you get with each sip makes the drink.
This is a great drink to make in a pitcher for Thanksgiving dinner. It can be made a few hours ahead of time. Plus you can rim the glasses ahead of time, too. I shared this recipe for a recent party and it was a big hit.
Thank you, Jack R, for gifting this drink to our ladies-only dinner.
Gluten-Free/Wheat-Free Option: This drink is naturally gluten-free/wheat-free as rum is derived from sugar cane.
